How can the Imams (a) give a guarantee of intercession in advance? Imam Reza (a) said: “… and I am as a part of the Prophetâs body, I am the trust and star of the lineage; whosoever makes a pilgrimage to me knowing my true right and my obedience which have been obligatory on him by Allah, my forefathers and I will intercede him on the Judgement Day and everyone is interceded by us will be saved….(Wasaâil al-Shiâa Vol. 2, P.436) My understanding is that, only on the Day of Judgement, and only with the permission of Allah (s.w.t.), intercession will be permitted. Therefore, it is difficult for me to understand how can the Imams (a) give a guarantee in advance? The pilgrim may know the true right of the Imam (a) and also the need to obey him. I think the Imam (a) can ask for the forgiveness but he (a) cannot give any guarantee.
