Your justification has a problem. We give thanks to God for His blessings one of which is our own existence alone. God was not forced to create us so that he would have the duty to support us. God has created human beings and the entire world upon His grace and mercy. Thus, if the very existence is granted by His mercy, offering other blessings is not His duty. So we should be thankful to God for granting our existence and we do praise God because of  extra blessings He has given to us.
Furthermore, in the noble Qurâan, God asked the faithful to thank God because of their own benefits not because of God. We read in the Qurâan, “whoever gives thanks, gives thanks only for his own sake. And whoever is ungrateful should know that my Lord is indeed all-sufficient, all-generous.” (27:40)
So, praising God is an absolute duty for all humans because He has granted them existence upon His mercy and grace and also supported them with his blessings without any compulsion. He created us just because we were apt to exist and to reach to our capacities and He let us kindly to reach to this goal.
